Boris Johnson has once again shown himself to be eager and ready to leap to the defence of those most at risk in his constituency. Admittedly, he may have overseen a period of intense economic and social cleansing in Stratford, centred around the Olympics; he may also have sat ineffectually in office throughout the riots which were sparked by visibly increasing levels of poverty, inequality and corruption in the city; indeed, it may even be true that he stood by silently while hospitals, libraries, schools, the Metropolitan Police and the fire service, which had been placed under his direct authority, suffered swathing cuts and closures, but he does have his limits.

It is truly most heartening to see that this Mayor is not prepared to merely watch idly from the side-lines while faceless bureaucrats in Brussels try to restrict our honest, hard-working, salt-of-the-earth bankers from more than doubling their salaries…
